What’s a good pet that I could pet in a ten gallon aquarium?
I dislike hamsters and guinea pigs. My dad does not like turtles or frogs. I already have a snake. Preferably not another green anole.
Any first hand owners with good, small pets?

You can keep a pair of Gerbils in a 10 gallon tank. Gerbils are friendlier than hamsters are less maintenance than guinea pigs.

Question by L.Love: How do I bond with my two pet rats?
I have two female baby rats who I got about 6 days ago. I’m already attached to them, but they seem a bit scared of me… or a lot scared of me. I handle them gently, and I’ve tried everyday to get them to eat different veggies out of my hand and they will. But when I try to pet them, they get scared and try to bite me. I heard they don’t really bite, but mine bite all the time. I always wash my hands after I touch any food, so it’s not because of that. I talk to them quietly, I’ve taken them out everyday and let them run around and play in the blankets in my bed, but they try to stay away from me… It’s making me sad =( Should I keep doing the same things and just give it more time… or is there something else I can do? Please answer! Thank you =)

My kids had mice, hamsters, white rats and gerbils, and Guinea pigs too. They all bit for no reason, the hamsters were the worst. good luck.

Okay, I’ll try to shorten it as much as possible. Firstly, I do not like how some stores treat their pets… especially their fish, like bettas, who sit in icky dangerous cups of algae, ammonia, etc. So I thought… “hey, why don’t I start up my own?”

My store will be based around the fair treatement of all the animals, and there will be NO mill animals – there will be animals from pounds, spca’s, surrenders, strays, etc, preferably. The costs of animals like cats and dogs will be based on vaccinations and getting them fixed (if they are at the age for it). Bettas alone will be in a 2.5-5 gallon tank each with heaters, and all fish will have proper sized tanks (goldfish, cichlids, neon tetras, danios, barbs, etc) plus with other compatible fish.

I will also be making animal treats, and because people love their dogs to be dressed (or the dog needs to have a coat o_O ) clothing apparel, along with booties, collars, leashes, halters… There will be blankets, pillows, and toys as well. Toys bought and made Some animals I can breed myself, which then nature just takes it’s course anyways (hamsters, gerbils, bettas, platys, mollies, etc) which of course they will be humanely bred (not rows of hamsters pregnant kind of dealeo for example) with proper research done before, during and after, plus kept safe, healthy, clean, and happy!!! THAT’S the primary goal for the animals including fish. I would see a happy, active, vibrant betta sell faster than a sickly, cold, inactive betta – same goes with other animals.

I would be holding “adoption days” as well, working with pounds and spca’s closest to me.

So, how much would the initial cost be? I am in Canada, and where I live there is ONE pet store and people are forced to go to the city for “petsmart” or “petco” places if they want something specific, or because there is more competition therefore lower prices.

So, if I make some stuff myself, that’s pretty cheap. I can do that ahead of time too I have sewing experience and am pretty good with designing and such. I also know a heck load of carpenters and a contractor even who can help, which also cuts the cost. I guess I would be leasing a building, right?

I’m guestimating 40,000.00? what do you think? I am thinking of saving up for 3-5 years (probably closer to 5).

immat, okay, but there is only one pet store here. You know why? because the best one retired, and this one remains. There are no chain stores, so not much competition. Even walmart lacks to sell anything worth while. My costs sure would be the animals, fish, accessories and the costs you mentioned. But what I wonder is what number am I aiming for?

Question by woodpeckerskies: When a pet dies is it acceptable to throw it in the trash?
That’s what my mom did to all my hamsters. Sometimes she’d throw one away and buy a new one and think I wouldn’t know, but then I took out the trash and I’d see it on top.

I’m just asking because my cat died and I don’t feel like bothering much with it

Also, what about flushing pets down the toilet? Is it ok if they are small, and can fit (like hamsters, fish mice etc).

And if an animal died that don’t fit easily into the thrash/toilet (this is just hypothetical) could you cut it into bits that would fit?

I saw an ad offering a free spider monkey to a good home, as the owner is leaving the state to go to college. We’ve got children, dogs, cats, hamsters & fish already.

What kind of care does a spider monkey need? Are they usually caged or free-roaming? What do they eat? Do they mix well with other pets? Children? Do they use a litter box?

Any info that you can give me re: spider monkeys as family pets will be appreciated!

my rabbit is a free roam rabbit. you have to watch for wires and things in the floor, but they can be trained very easy. Mine is litter box trained, and gets along with my dogs. They make good house pets, they don’t bark, and they don’t make any noise…

1- I would feed a pet rock dirt.
2- Pet rocks need to live in loving environments. Nicely decorated shoe boxes work well for houses.
3- Sometimes you can keep more than one together. They may fight, but it’s strictly a territorial thing. They’ll get over it soon.
4- You care for pebbles basically the same way you care for bigger rocks. Just feed them finer dirt, it’s easier for them to digest.
5- The average rock lives about 1000 years, if it is showered with unconditional love, and if it is fed enough.
