Question by xoxbmk: why does my dog suck on his blanket?
he takes a blanket and will start to kneed on it with his front paws and then just starts sucking on it after he does that for a while he just sits with his mouth around the blanket & looks so content. while he’s doing this he is very calm when normally he is a really rambunctious little guy. he’s almost 2 years old we found him when he was just a puppy so we’re not exactly sure how old he is & he is a pit bull mix.

it’s most likey because he was taken from his mom at a very young age and wasnt weened off of her .

He is now living in his foster home with Candy, a female pit bull foster who is a little older than he is. They do quite well together. He is a super, super sweet boy who loves his humans as well as his other canine housemates. When he wants attention, he will punch gently at your leg, until you pet him or throw his toy for him. Rooty was recently neutered. Since entering foster, Rooty has gained a few pounds and is now a healthy weight. We expect him to be 40-50 pounds when full grown and just as super sweet as he is now.

Question by D P: My dog is licking and pawing a blanket, almost like she is suckling?
She is a 1 year old chihuahua/terrier mix. We got her from the SPCA, so we are unsure of her puppy history. We have had her for 3 months now, and this is the first we saw it.

She had a section of it between her paws and was licking and almost sucking on it very intently. She was also spreading and closing her paws like a cat.

Since you don’t know about her puppy history it could be possible she was taken away from her mother too young. Our dog that we got was 6 weeks when she was taken away and she has a nibbling problem like she is constantly trying to suckle – and she is 2. As long as it is not hurting anything, I would just let her do it.

I was watching my dog when he jumped on my chair and before he would lay down, he would dig into the blanket and move it around with his mouth and paws. Why does he do it?

I love it when she gives me kisses when I tell her it is bed time. She offers them. Also when when my blanket hangs on to the floor she will get underneath it.

Which pet do you want to know about? LOL

Autumn and her son, Ridge, smile. Ridge is very dark and his teeth are very white, it’s like the sun coming out on a very dark rainy day. Beautiful!

Mr. Big loves it when I sprinkle baby powder on my bed. He rubs himself in it and when he is done he’s not black anymore, he’s grey. LOL

Pirogue was my first Yorkie and he’s an independant cuss. I love it when he comes to me and wants to be held. That MAY happen once every 2 months.

Jewel climbs up in my lap and if I don’t pay her any attention she will put her paws up on my chest and look me in the face. If I still don’t pay her any mind she will take her little paw and put it on my mouth and then the stinker digs in with her claws, firmly but not hard enough to leave marks. Unless I still don’t pay her attention. Sometimes she will get on the back of the couch or chair or pillow behind my head and comb my hair.

I have many more but that’s enough. LOL

Our BELOVED husky/shepherd cross. An amazing special friend and family member. She LOVED to dig holes, the deeper the better! She LOVED the snow (could NOT get her in the house at all if there was snow on the ground)! She hated it when you had your back turned to her..lol! She rarely barked but always "talked" up a storm! Loved car rides and quick dips in the water. She always looked forward to Christmas morning where she could open her presents and had to be right in the middle of it all! She would also get a big box of dog "cookies" from "Nana" and we would leave it opened under the tree and once in awhile she would walk over and take one, just one cookie and she thought she was so smart lol! She "hearded" you if you weren’t going in the direction she wanted you to go! She hated Crows and Seagulls. She loved her walks and always enjoyed meeting new "friends". When she was hungry and her kibble dish was empty, she would pick it up and throw it down to get your attention or she would smack her huge paws down on the floor until she was noticed. She was the "boss" and made sure we knew it lol but she never met anyone she didn’t like and she was so gentle with everyone and everything. What an amazing life force she was!
She passed away October 19, 2004 at 9 years old of heart failure

I was taking a photo class in school, and the assignment was to take photos of Rutgers. But they didn’t actually specify what the photos had to be of. I had this idea a while ago, I’d bought a panda bear key chain wearing a Rutgers shirt and thrown away the panda with the idea of one day photographing a hamster in the shirt.

Dogs are a popular choice when it comes to owning a pet and around eight million dogs are owned in the UK. Looking after a dog takes a lot of care, and involves buying dog crates , dog coats for more slighter breeds in the winter, kennels, vet bills and an awful lot of care. Nevertheless, some think it is worthwhile just to have the companionship of a dog by your side.

The health and well being of your dog should be of utmost importance, and the RSPCA website promotes five welfare needs: environment, diet, behaviour, company and health and welfare. Each need is important in taking care of your dog. The environment in which you keep your dog should be big enough for it, with plenty of room for it to walk around, if dogs live together, you should provide enough extra resources (e.g. toys, beds and hiding places) to stop them from becoming competitive and fighting. You should also make sure the size and temperature of any place you leave your dog (including your vehicle) is appropriate.

Your dog’s diet should be adjusted so that he/she doesn’t become under or overweight. In addition, you should always provide your dog with constant access to clean drinking water and make sure it eats a balanced diet suitable for its age, lifestyle and health status.

With regards to discipline, it is advisable to choose a type and size of dog that is suited to you, your home and your lifestyle. You are advised to train your dog from an early age, using rewards to back up training. Never shout at or punish your dog. The dog is very unlikely to understand and can become more nervous or scared. Exercise helps dogs burn off its energy, keep it active and stimulated.

Your dog craves good company. If it is friendly towards other dogs, allow it to interact with them on a regular basis. You should never leave your dog unsupervised with another animal or person who may deliberately or accidentally harm or frighten it and when you are away, make sure your dog is properly cared for by a responsible person.

By taking into consideration all these factors, you and your new pet can live in harmony.
